Frequently Asked Questions:

Question:  How do I set my counter to zero?

Answer:  Lower your cannonball to just below the water's surface, then lift the counter spring and move it off the counter wheel (to the counter side). Once the counter spring is clear of the counter wheel, you can rotate the counter wheel until the counter reads all zeros. Then, return the counter spring to it's original position over the counter wheel.

Question:  Why is my downrigger motor growling and why does the counter run backwards?

Answer:  Look to see if the cable is coming off the top of the reel. If it is, the downrigger has been run out to the entire length of the cable, and then rewound with the motor running in the wrong direction. This puts a higher torque load on the motor shaft. To correct this, run the cable out to the end  and rewind in the right direction by pressing the top of the toggle switch.

Question:  Why are my planer reels cracking and breaking?

Answer:  The planer reel will crack and break if it has been wound with monofilament line or "Weed Whacker" line. These materials have a memory. Once the line has been streched out during use, then reeled in it will return to it's original size. The shrinking of the monfilament line may cause the reel to crack and break.

Question:  I would like to be extra safe and use an in-line fuse from the power supply to my downriggers. What size fuse should I use?

Answer:  If you are powering only one downrigger per power cable, use a 15 amp fuse. If you are powering two downriggers per cable, then you will need to use a 30 amp fuse.

Question:  I am having trouble with my rod holder caps coming off. What can I use to keep them on?

Answer:  We recommend using silicone sealant or "Gorilla Glue®".
